Muirsheen Durkin
|
In my days a courtin` I was never tired resorting,
To the alehouse and the playhouse
And to many a house besides.
I told me brother Seamus I`d be off and be right famous
And before I would return back home
I`d roam the whole world wide.
For I`ve courted girls in Blarney in Kanturk and in Killarney
In Passage and in Queenstown.
(That`s now the Cobh of Cork)
So if I give all this pleasure sure I`m off to take Me leisure
And the next time that you`ll hear from me
`T`wil be a letter from New York
Chorus
So Goodbye Muirsheen Durkin
I`m sick and tired of working
The longer I dig Taties then the longer I`ll stay Poor
As sure as me name is Carney
I`ll be off to Californey
And instead of diggin` Taties
I`ll be diggin` lumps of gold
So it`s goodbye to all the folks back home
I`m sailing far across the foam
I`m off to seek me fortune in far Amerikay.
For there`s Gold and Rum aplenty
For the poor and for the gentry,
And if ever I return back home
I sha`n`t be long to stay.
Chorus
